The TRANSIT research project (Transformative Social Innovation Theory) is developing a theory on transformative social innovation which is about empowerment and change in society. The project studies whether and how social innovation can bring about societal transformation and empowerment. As part of the first phase of the project, TRANSIT researchers have done case studies on 12 selected international networks, among them GEN as well as the transition network. At the workshop „Transformative Social Innovation: Insights from state-of-the-art research and practice“ taking place in Rotterdam on February 26, the first results were presented. Former GEN Europe Managing Director Ulrike Schimmel was invited as a keynote speaker presenting GEN and the ecovillage concept to an interested audience of scientists and representatives of some of the other networks studied. The findings of TRANSIT will be further elaborated into concrete recommendations and ,,tools‘ that can be used by change agents such as ecovillagers who aim to facilitate transformative social innovation. More information on the TRANSIT findings can be found at www.transitsocialinnvoation.eu where also the case studies will be published shortly.
